That day I started the Body For Life 12 Week Challenge…And didn’t go the gym…

I gained 80 pounds when I was pregnant with my son.  It wasn’t pretty.  However, with hard work and a little self control I was able to take that weight back off. Granted, I gained it in 9 months and it took me 18 months to lose, but whatever.  I still did it.  :) I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about where I want to go from here.  I lost the baby weight and I’m training for a half marathon, but it isn’t enough.  I want to be strong and decided to take part in the 2014 Body For Life 12 Week Challenge. It sounds easy enough.  I eat 6 healthy meals a day and exercise for 6 days straight. Day 7 is rest/cheat day.  I spent all last week figuring out my meals, talking myself into putting on a bikini for my “before” picture, and mentally preparing to lift weights at the gym. (I get so psyched out when I try to lift at the gym. We’ll discuss this more at a later date.) I woke up today feeling great and ready to go… And then I never made it to the gym. I hate excuses, but I’m a mom and sometimes my life is not always my own.

The morning started out promising.  I made myself my favorite breakfast.

Then my little dude decided that today was not going to be a good day.  He has been sick for 10 days now and I finally thought he was getting better.  I was off for Presidents’ Day and had big things planned. (Well, not really “BIG” things, but I was looking forward to leaving the house and maybe hitting up the running store.) Unfortunately my baby needed a trip to the pediatrician because of the mother of all diaper rashes. Our appointment wasn’t til 3:45 and I was determined to leave the house and do something.

I got to the car thinking we could still hit up the running store, but one look in my rear view mirror told me that was probably my worst idea ever. So to Barnes & Noble we went.

Let me tell you a little something about B&N.  I call it the indoor park.  There’s a Thomas the Train set, Legos, all kinds of toys to look at it, and, of course, books to read. We love B&N and hang out at our local store at least once a week.

photo 6{Legos are even more fun when you can build them somewhere other than your house.}

After an hour at B&N, we headed home for some yummies and a quick nap before the pediatrician visit. (I had initially planned to hit the gym up in this time slot before I knew we would be spending the afternoon at the doctor’s office.)

photo 7{My son thinks this is the only good thing about the pedi.}

After a quick visit, we left with a prescription for a diaper rash cream. Unfortunately, our local pharmacist didn’t carry the cream… and neither did the 10 other pharmacies that she contacted on my behalf.

photo 8{It’s all good though because these baskets are awesome.}

The little dude and I went home to make dinner.  At this point I figured I would feed us all, ditch my husband and son after dinner, and drive over the gym. However, about 10 minutes into dinner prep my mom called to tell me that her local pharmacy carried the diaper rash cream that we needed, so at 7 o’clock (after dinner BTW. Nothing comes between me and dinner.), the toddler and I hopped in the car and drove the 40 minutes to my parents’s house to pick up the miracle butt cream.

photo 9{This was dinner and it was amazing!  Another yummy Pinterest find.  You can grab the recipe here.}

photo 10{This was the miracle butt cream. $375 AMERICAN DOLLARS!!!  Thank all that is holy that I have kick ass insurance and this puppy only cost me $10.}

So yeah.  We picked up the magical diaper rash cream, drove the five minutes to my parents’ house, gave my son a shower, applied the previously mentioned butt miracle, played with mom mom and pop pop til 9, and then drove the 40 minutes back home.  And that is why I didn’t make it to the gym.

HOWEVER… I did take my “before” shots which I’m not ready to share.  I also took fully clothed pictures thinking I will take weekly pics in the same clothes and be madly impressed by my super fast transformation skills.  We’ll see.

BFL Before{Eh. I actually think I look better in the bikini shots. Figures, right?}

Hopefully by next week we’ll see a little less love in my middle and maybe less back fat in the…well, you know… back.  And I pinkie swear that I will go to the gym tomorrow!

I hope you all had a great Presidents’ Day.

Operation MILF

I like to joke that 2008 was my year. I was 26, mostly single, and in the best shape of my life. After leaving a bad relationship in September 2007, I went from weighing 200 pounds to 160 pounds in 13 months. I was taking pole dance lessons two times a week and walk/running every other day. I never looked (or felt) so great.

2008

I knew having a baby would be hard, but I never imagined the toll it would have on my body. I didn’t exercise as much. I was more sedentary all day and night. I ate! I never stressed though. I figured how hard could it possibly be to lose the baby weight? Well, 80 pounds gained later, here I am.

Baby Shower
{Here I am with Dave at my shower. There were a lot more flattering pictures taken, but I think this really shows me at my heaviest. Eeks!}

I had Dax via c section on March 8th, 2012. I would say the first week I had to have lost close to 30 pounds. It was awesome and I wasn’t even doing anything hard. I was just trying to survive with a newborn. But then my weight stalled. I tried not to stress it out because 30 pounds lost is a SUPER BIG DEAL!!! Over the next few months I started to find my rhythm as a mom. I even lost 5 more pounds. Then I saw this picture of me on Facebook from my Uncle’s birthday party in July.

Holy $&#@!!! That’s me!!! How is that me?!?!? I lost 35 pounds!!!!!!  How am I still HUGE?!?!

Well, 35 pounds is all great and good, but I was 253 pounds right before I had Dax. I was 174 when I got pregnant. That’s a 44 pound difference. In my head, I knew I still looked different, but it didn’t really hit home until I saw this picture. I was still eating like crap and I was no longer exercising. What did I think would happen?

It was after this that I decided to start Operation MILF. I knew I had a long journey ahead of me and if I didn’t do it with a sense of humor, I would break down and cry. I started (trying) to wear a little bit of makeup every day. I bought new and flattering clothes even though they were two sizes bigger than prepregnancy. I now drink more water. I also started journaling my food intake.

I love my son, but I lost a big part of my identity when I had him. I knew it was time to reclaim myself. Yes, I’m no longer the same woman I was last year, but that doesn’t mean I can no longer be happy with myself as a woman, not just as a mom.  I spend a lot of time on Pinterest looking at healthy transformation pictures and now I want to make 2013 the year that I can show my transformation pictures.

In December I decided it was time to take my healthy routine to a whole new level.  I’m tracking my calories through LoseIt and started using a Fitbit Zip to help keep me more active during the day.  I am in love with Back on Pointe and her amazeballs workouts!  This lady seriously keeps me motivated to exercise!  And speaking of motivation, I joined DietBet.com to keep me on track with my weight loss during these cold winter months.  It’s a whole lot easier to step away from the cake when you know you have money on the line! :)

I’ve lost 8 pounds since December and am really feeling great!  I’m motivated and positive and excited to keep on making steps towards all my goals.  I still have a lot of work ahead of me, but in the meantime, here’s a little attention whore post to show off my progress…
